This Sunday, February 26, Mainly Mozart offers another opportunity to enjoy an evening of beautiful classical music. Pianist John Lill will treat attendees to pieces by three classical masters: Beethoven, Brahms and Schumann. And you won't have to travel far, as the concert will take place right in town at the Inn at Rancho Santa Fe.
The evening begins with a wine reception at 5:30, followed by the concert at 6:30pm. Lill opens with Beethoven's Sonata in C Minor Pathétique, Op. 13. On February 25 from 6pm to 11pm, join other San Diego benefactors at the 15th Annual Heart of San Diego Gala to support the UC San Diego Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center. Tonight at 5:30pm, join the stars of the San Diego Opera's Moby-Dick for a discussion of the opera and its production. This is a fantastic opportunity for opera aficionados to ask questions of the Moby-Dick's singers, conductors and directors. The guest panel looks at the opera's music, characters and all of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into the production.
This production is the world premiere of Jake Heggie's opera based on Herman Melville's classic 19th century novel, Moby Dick. It was first performed at the Dallas Opera in April of 2010. Like the novel, the opera examines the destructive power of obsession while following Captain Ahab and the crew of the Pequod as Ahab hunts the white whale.

Tonight, from 5pm to 7pm, contemporary artist Kevin Winger will hold an opening reception for his Decadent Expressions exhibition. Winger is known for his signature impasto style and use of splashes of color. He is partnering with the 525 Restaurant at the Inn at the Park to present art patrons with a "fine art exhibition to tickle your senses."

On February 10 and 11, join the San Diego Symphony for "Broadway's Best: A Valentine's Romance Event". Two of Broadway's stars, Jennifer Holliday and Mike Eldred, join the symphony for a special Winter Pops Concert. Jennifer Holliday is the world renowned star of the original Dreamgirls. On February 13 in Rancho Santa Fe, Kate Middleton's own hairstylist, James Pryce, will be making a personal appearance and offering precision haircuts and blowouts to men and women who snag an appointment soon enough. If you're an opera aficionado, then the San Diego Opera 2012 Gala is not to be missed. On January 28, celebrate opening night of the 2012 season with a black-tie reception, followed by the San Diego opera's production of Strauss's drama, Salomé. After the opera, join the cast for a night of dining and dancing.
The pre-opera cocktail reception begins at 5:30pm, followed by the opera at 7pm. On Sunday, January 29, from 1pm to 4pm, the Fairbanks Ranch Country Club in Rancho Santa Fe is hosting "Hearts for Healing," an art event to benefit the Family Health Centers of San Diego. The auction features student works created under the direction of artist Gerrit Greve. The theme for the event is "uplifting and heartfelt" art.
An RSVP for the event is required by January 20, 2012. Tickets cost $30 per person, $15 for children 12 and under. Family Health Centers of San Diego is a private, nonprofit health care clinic organization with 30 locations throughout San Diego County. Proceeds from "Hearts for Healing" will benefit their continuing efforts as part of San Diego's health care safety net for the uninsured and underserved.

San Diego's 103rd Anniversary Charity Ball, "Spectacular San Diego," is coming up on January 21. Every year, San Diego's Charity Ball is a central part of the city's philanthropic and social life—some have called it the "Grande Dame" of charity balls. San Diego's oldest charitable event is a chance to benefit a worthy cause while enjoying a luxurious, black-tie evening of dinner and dancing. January 15-20, 2012 is San Diego Restaurant Week. It's a great opportunity to support local restaurants and have an exquisite meal at the same time. During this twice-annual event, 180 of San Diego's best restaurants offer prix fixe menus, many of them for lunch as well as dinner. A two-course, prix fixe lunch at participating restaurants is either $10, $15 or $20, while a three-course dinner costs either $20, $30 or $40. You don't need to sign up, buy tickets or seek out coupons for Restaurant Week. Just plan to eat out at one of the participating restaurants between January 15 and January 20. The beautiful Hotel del Coronado has transformed their Windsor Lawn into an ice rink so that you can enjoy an experience unique to Southern California: ice skating amidst palm trees overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Not only is this a great opportunity to enjoy some seasonal fun with your family, but some of the proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation of San Diego.
The skating rink is open through January 1 and then again from January 6 through January 8. Every year, San Diego celebrates the holiday season with the Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade. This Southern California tradition is billed as "America's largest balloon parade." Enjoy a procession of marching bands, floats, drill teams and balloons as they make their way through the beautiful bayside streets of downtown San Diego.
The grandstands for the parade are located in front of the Maritime Museum. Seats in the stands will give you the best view of the performances and can be purchased for $20 on a will-call basis. You can also view the parade from street-side anywhere along the parade route for free. The parade begins at 10am following the start of the Bumblebee 5K.

The 1st Annual Toys for Tots Charity Fashion Show will take place on December 18 from 6pm to 9pm at the 98 Bottles Lounge in San Diego. The evening features the work of six designers who have each developed a collection of six to ten pieces specifically for the event. When you arrive, you'll be treated to hors d'oeuvres while you listen to a brief, "creative" lecture on the Toys for Tots Foundation, followed by the fashion show.
