What's Up In San Diego & What's Open!

After a MONTH of the “Shelter In Place” order being put in place in San Diego, and all of our beloved hiking trails, beaches and restaurants being closed- due to COVID-19, we are starting to see a glimmer of hope! We have been dreaming of the day when we could all go outside again, and get back to our normal lives, enjoying ALL that gorgeous San Diego has to offer. We are sincerely OVERJOYED that this week, things are starting to OPEN UP again! Here is a complete current list of what has reopened, and what the new rules are- split up into a few of our favorite categories.

Beaches

Joggers, walkers and surfers, GET EXCITED! Some San Diego beaches have reopened, as of April 27, 2020. Coronado Beach, Moonlight Beach in Encinitas and Oceanside Beaches have ALL been reopened! Restrictions have been lifted for swimmers, surfers, kayakers and paddle-boarders. It seems that the sun is on our side too, with the forecast predicting 90 degree weather this week. Make sure, if you are planning on “getting beachy,” to follow the new rules and regulations set forth. While most water activities are allowed, boating is still prohibited. In addition, all boardwalks, piers and parking lots at reopened beaches are all still closed. Del Mar, Solana Beach and Carlsbad will remain closed until further notice, but we remain hopeful that it will be soon!

Parks

San Diego Mayor, Kevin Faulconer, said, “There is a light at the end of the tunnel,” while announcing the reopening of some parks in San Diego! Individual recreation, such as walking and jogging is allowed while wearing masks is highly encouraged. Right now, I can not think of anything better than going for a walk/run in the fresh air and sunshine! For now, however, public gatherings and sports are still prohibited, and playgrounds and parking lots are still closed. But, potentially not for long, as Faulconer seemed very hopeful that we are, “Entering into a new phase of this crisis.” Click here for a full list of reopened parks.

Farmers Markets

Calling all foodies, and everyone passionate about supporting small businesses! Some Farmers Markets are starting to reopen in San Diego! For someone who traditionally attends the Rancho Santa Fe Farmers Market weekly, this is truly grounds for a celebration. The Little Italy and Hillcrest locations are now OPEN, hopefully paving the way for all local Farmers Markets around San Diego. If you “shop small” this weekend, make sure you follow all of the new regulations put in place. 80 people will be permitted at a time, with masks encouraged and a six-foot distance from others enforced. A new “no-touch” rule has been set forth, and instead, all customers are asked to point to the fruits or vegetables that they want to purchase. No pets will be allowed inside, and credit cards are preferred- in order to not spread germs.

The reopening of some of our favorite San Diego hot spots is SO exciting, and truly the glimmer of hope most of us have been waiting for! Let’s hold on to this positive news, and use it to drive us forward. As the world turns, life always goes on, and this too shall pass. We are all in this together.
